California releases over 30,000 people from the state prison system every year. The California Workforce Development Board (CWDB) partners with state agencies through the Corrections-Workforce Partnership to help people successfully transition from incarceration back into their communities and the workforce.
Many justice-involved individuals receive some levels skills training, education, healthcare and behavioral services while incarcerated. The Corrections-Workforce Partnership then builds on that foundation by connecting them to post-release services like job training and career counseling to strengthen their path to stable employment.
CWDB’s programs like Prison to Employment and Helping Justice-Involved Reenter Employment (HIRE) demonstrate how comprehensive reentry programs can open doors to good jobs and reduce recidivism. By working with partners at the local, regional, state, and federal levels, CWDB supports programs that provide justice-involved individuals with the necessary resources they need to succeed in the workforce.
