Oil And Gas Well Capping

The Oil and Gas Well Capping program supports on-the-job training to cap oil, gas, and geothermal wells in Kern and Los Angeles counties. This collaborative venture between the CWDB, the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency (LWDA) , and the California Geologic Energy Management Division of Department of Conservation (CalGEM) creates employment opportunities while reducing California’s carbon footprint. 

The Oil and Gas Well Capping Program supports apprenticeship programs in developing curricula for training apprentices, upskilling journeypersons, and serving members of underserved communities for well-capping projects in Kern and Los Angeles Counties.

FUNDING SOURCE INFORMATION

Under the Budget Act of 2022 (AB 178), the CWDB was allocated funding to develop the Oil and Gas Well Capping Pilot Initiative in Kern and Los Angeles counties.  The CWDB has solicited and awarded these funds through its High Road Training Partnership (HRTP) program to include the principles of High Road and California Jobs First.
