About Us

Our Vision

A California economy defined by equity, quality jobs, and climate resiliency.

Our Work

Since 1998, the California Workforce Development Board (CWDB) has partnered with employers, local workforce development boards (Local Boards), education partners, community organizations, labor unions and workers statewide to increase quality job opportunities for all Californians.  Working in collaboration with the Governor, our team shapes workforce policies, programs, and investments that strengthen California’s economy. Together, these partnerships keep our workforce system responsive to the changing needs of businesses and communities across the state.

How do we accomplish all of this?

  • We coordinate state agencies and programs across California to maximize impact.
  • We guide statewide workforce policies, programs, and investments that drive results.
  • We work closely with 45 Local Boards to ensure statewide workforce efforts align with regional priorities and community needs.

Unified Strategic Workforce Development Plan

The Unified Strategic Workforce Development Plan (State Plan) is built around three objectives which guide state policy and practice:

  • Fostering demand-driven skills attainment.
  • Enabling upward mobility for all Californians.
  • Aligning, coordinating, and integrating programs and services.
