The Helping Justice-Involved Reenter Employment (HIRE) program supports community-based organizations (CBOs) and nonprofits in delivering employment services tailored to justice-involved individuals. HIRE works to expand employment opportunities, increase job mobility, and provide training that builds marketable skills for the reentry population.
HIRE funding is supported by the California Workforce Development Board (CWDB) in alignment with AB-178. Funds may be used for one or more of the following:
-
- Direct services to support reentry and job placement.
- Supportive services and needs-related payments to help participants successfully transition back into the workforce.
- Job readiness activities that serve as a bridge to training program enrollment and completion. (e.g., obtaining a driver’s license, securing housing, or addressing other barriers to employment).
HIRE NETWORKS
Our HIRE program encourages collaboration through HIRE Networks – groups of organizations applying together for our grant under a single application. Each network is anchored by a large CBO (hub) and includes additional CBOs (spokes).
HIRE Networks work together to provide coordinated, comprehensive services to the reentry community. The networks may operate in multiple counties and cities, be organized around a single industry, or offer a broad range of services to meet a wide range of reentry needs.
